Electric Shaving: The Basics

An electric shaver is often the term used for an electrical appliance that a person uses in order to shave. Shaving with an electric shaver saves time. It is also unnecessary to use shave brushes, creams and lotions when using an electrical shaver. In addition to all of these benefits, you will also lower your chances for cuts.

There are many shavers that operate on electricity, as well as others that are operated by battery. Electrical razors were first made towards the end of the 1920's and the early 1930's. There are even a few manufacturers that are still continuing to produce razors today. Power razor varieties then began to be developed among many other companies.

Rotary and foil electric shavers have been of the most popular types. Both foil and bruan shavers for men contain an element known as foil for trapping the hair that is shaved. The next step is for the blades on the razor to cut the trapped pieces of hair. On a rotary razor you will find three sets of blades and three foils. On the face of the rotary razor you will find rotating heads, which are actually the blades.

Only one head and one foil will be found on a foil designed electric razor. Foils are expected to give a closer shave, but many people prefer rotary electric shavers since they are able to cut longer hair. Rotary razors are said to do far better the curved surfaces of the face as well. You will find that both designs are very popular.

There are a number or razors available that cater to women as well. You may find that a rotary design tends to give you a better shave around the knee or underarm areas. The foil electric shaver will give women very close shaves. In addition, electric shavers combined with shave gels or creams will allow for women that are prone to razor burn to enjoy a great shave. The ability to be used on dry skin is by far the biggest benefit to the electric razor.

When you first begin using an electric razor, you may not get the quality that you expect right away. It could take a couple of weeks for your skin and hair to get accustomed to the new electric razor. However, your best shave can be found within a few weeks. If you still aren't getting the shave that you want after a few weeks, you may want to use a special cream or gel that hardens the hair for an easier cut.

It is of the utmost importance that you keep your electric razor clean. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to get the best clean. You will also need to keep an eye on the foils over your blades. You need to replace the entire razor if the foil breaks or falls off. Without the foils, you will likely end up with cuts.
